Nonprofit/Corporate Partnerships: How Tipping Point Community Ensures Success for Its Grantees

The Tipping Point Community is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty in the Bay Area. To do this it establishes long-term, strategic relationships with its grantees. To help grantees succeed, Tipping Point provides both unrestricted funds and extensive training and support so that grantees can approach and manage all key functions, including partnerships in a truly strategic way. Canal Alliance, a long-term Tipping Point grantee, provides sustained wraparound services with the goal of alleviating poverty in Marin County.

Kelly Bathgate, Director, Strategic Partnerships, Tipping Point Community (@tippingpoint)
Kelly is the Director of Strategic Partnerships at Tipping Point Community, a Bay Area-based foundation focused on poverty alleviation. In this role, she builds cross-sector partnerships to provide capacity-building support to Tipping Point’s 44 grantee organizations. Prior to joining Tipping Point, Kelly worked as sustainability manager for Education Sector, a national education policy think tank, where she led fund and business development and worked on policy issues related to shared impact and accountability. She started her nonprofit career teaching and running an arts education program in East Palo Alto and surrounding communities. Kelly holds a bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley, and a master's degree in education policy, organization, and leadership studies from Stanford University.
Omar Carrera, Executive Director, Canal Alliance (@canalalliance)
Omar is a social entrepreneur, human rights advocate, and strategic visionary with more than seventeen years' experience in business operation management in the non-profit and for-profit sectors. He was born and raised in Ecuador. Before coming to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2002, Omar earned a CPA and Business Management degree with a focus on organizational performance and change, and worked for Mitsubishi as a Senior Consultant. Omar graduated from the Nonprofit Management Program at San Francisco State University and received multiple certifications from the Executive Education Program at The John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Rachael Grossman, Executive Coach and Consultant
Rachael Grossman is a certified executive coach and consultant with extensive experience in the corporate, non-profit and social enterprise sectors. As a coach, she brings together for-profit smarts and non-profit soul to create solutions that integrate organizational and individual lead development. As a consultant, Rachael helps clients develop strategic growth and partnerships plans, and helps develop staff capacity to implement these strategies. As a C-level executive, she developed and managed divisions encompassing new business development, fundraising, public relations developed marketing and strategic partnerships for Goodwill Industries, Women.com, and the Women’s Funding Network. She is an executive coach for the Center for Excellence in Nonprofits’ Leaders Institute.
